In response to a suggestion by Her Majesty The Queen, the original Jubilee Walkway was established in 1977 as a ‘legacy of her reign, and to provide an opportunity for visitors to experience the variety of London life’. The Jubilee Walkway Trust was then constituted to look after and promote the path beyond the Silver Jubilee.
Trustees have continued to work with relevant authorities and landowners to improve, extend and maintain the Walkway for more than 25 years to the benefit of the many Londoners and visitors who have taken pleasure in exploring London on foot.
Inspired by the London 2012 Olympic games and in anticipation of The Diamond Jubilee the Trust has developed the Jubilee Greenway as a longer and more extensive route, for walkers and cyclists, linking the central London games venues with many of the Capital's favourite parks, attractions, palaces and views .
