Sir John Soane's Museum

In 1837, through a private act of parliament, Sir John Soane ensured this extraordinary building and collection would be left entirely intact for future generations to enjoy and study. It houses an impression collection of art, featuring such well-known pieces as the original Rake's Progress by Hogarth and works by Turner and Canaletto, as well as ancient artefacts including a large alabaster Egyptian sarcophagus. However, the building that houses the collection is a work of art in its own right.

The surrounding area of Lincoln's Inn's Fields is the largest public square in London, and is also home to the Hunterian museum at the Royal College of Surgeons. The square was laid out by Inigo Jones in the early 17th Century.
