Horsenden Hill

Horsenden Hill is one of the highest points on the Capital Ring walk, with a summit at 84m above sea level providing some stunning views across London and the Home Counties.

Within the site are a variety of habitats. These range from ancient woodland containing the rare wild-service tree, wetland areas with abundant waterfowl, as well as wildflower meadows and grasslands. The area is home to many different types of bird, plus the rare purple and white letter hairstreak butterflies which can be seen flitting about the tree canopy.

It is also a site of great archaeological importance with a history dating back many thousands of years. Remains and finds from the hilltop indicate that there was an Iron Age settlement here, possibly even a fort, and this now has Scheduled Ancient Monument status.
