Hackney Wick
The area of Hackney Wick was a major industrial area in the 1800 and 1900s but fell into decline in post industrial times. The area is now being regenerated as a desirable location for small businesses and will see many further developments related to the 2012 Olympics.
Following the Lee Navigation from the station, one arrives at the start of the Greenway. This runs for six miles along the top of the Northern Outfall Sewer Embankment created as part of Bazalgette's new sewer system for London. It is a green car-free corridor with many points of interest along the way, including what may appear to be a grand palace, but is actually the Abbey Mills Pumping Station, built in 1868. There are various parks, reserves and open spaces along this route, which has many excellent viewpoints.
