Colne Valley Regional Park
Covering over 43 square miles, the Colne Valley Park stretches from Staines in the south to Rickmansworth in the north. It was established with the aim of protecting the area from urban spread and conserving wildlife as well providing leisure facilities for the public.
To walk the length of the park is to walk through a wide variety of landscapes, from woodlands through to wetland areas which are sanctuaries for a number of different types of waterfowl. As well as the Colne river, the Grand Union Canal also runs through the valley on its way from London to Birmingham and there are a number of lakes and reservoirs. This is also an area of historical significance and there have been some notable archaeological finds such as a Roman well.
